The helicopter, a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 aircraft, went off the radar shortly after taking off from Accra en route to Obuasi for the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme. All eight people on board died in the crash, which has sent shockwaves across the nation. The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, confirmed the tragic news and announced that national flags will fly at half-mast in honor of the deceased.
