Ahanta Language Renaissance Takes a Giant Leap Forward
In a significant development for the Ahanta language and culture, a formal proposal was submitted to the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), to establish a faculty for Ahanta language studies under the Department of Languages. This milestone marks the beginning of a new era in the preservation and promotion of the Ahanta language.
Led by Nana Aziaku IV, Acting President of the Ahanta Traditional Council, the committee presented the proposal to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Stephen Jobson Mitchual, in Winneba. The proposed faculty will offer degree programs, including Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Ahanta Language studies.
The establishment of this faculty will have a profound impact on the preservation and promotion of the Ahanta language. Once operational, the university will produce teachers who will be employed to teach Ahanta in schools within the Ghana Education Service.
The meeting with Professor Mitchual and the university leadership was productive, with a keen interest expressed in expediting the process of making this a reality. In the coming months, the selection process for the first batch of students will begin. Hon. Mavis Kuukua Bissue, leader of the initiative, commended the committee members for their tireless efforts and rich ideas. She also extended heartfelt appreciation to the vice chancellor and the university leadership for their support.
This development is a testament to the power of collaboration and dedication to preserving cultural heritage. The establishment of the Ahanta Language Studies faculty will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and development of the Ahanta language and culture. #AhantaLanguage #LanguagePreservation #UEW #GhanaEducation #CulturalHeritage #LanguageStudies #GhanaUniversity #AhantaTraditionalCouncil #MavisKuukuaBissue
