Fake GHS200 Note Alert: UMB Cautions Ghanaians to Stay Vigilant
Universal Merchant Bank Exposes Fake GH₵200 Note in Viral Post—Urges Public to Stay Alert
In a thought-provoking post shared on July 28, Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) raised alarm over a counterfeit 200 Ghana cedi note circulating online. The post cleverly challenged viewers with a twist—highlighting that anyone who selected the GHS200 note in a guessing game might need to double-check their instincts.
“Plot twist! If you chose the 200 cedis, I’m sorry to announce to you that you can neither buy your Jollof nor your Banku with tilapia. Why? It is fake,” UMB shared via their official Facebook page.
The bank pointed out critical flaws in the fake note’s design. Most notably, the serial number beneath the denomination and the cedi symbol on the top left corner were missing obvious signs of forgery when compared to a legitimate GHS200 note.
UMB applauded those who spotted the difference and identified the note as counterfeit. The message serves as a reminder that not everything that looks legit is genuine. The bank urged everyone to remain vigilant, especially in financial dealings, as counterfeit money scams are on the rise.
This public awareness initiative from UMB is part of a broader campaign to equip Ghanaians with financial literacy and protection from fraud.
So next time you're handed a note, take a second look—your jollof and tilapia might depend on it!
